Self assessment or 自己分析 which is needed when doing your company research, writing your resume and even during your interview. Self assessment helps us in understanding ourselves and analysing ourselves from different perspectives. This article will give an overall explanation of its importance and ways to write one.
What is Self Assessment? 自己分析
The goal of self assessment is as follows:
- To understand oneself: Be able to understand your skills, jobs suitable for yourself and thus create a career plan
- To receive the acceptance letter: Be able to answer in your entry sheet and during interviews
This helps in organising your strengths and weaknesses, success and failure stories, motivations and goals based on your experiences and your environment. By thinking about point 1, you will be able to think about point 2 and find out what sort of job you want to do or what would suit you (job position, industry).
For instance, if you like to meet new people and socialise, then the service industry such as hotel receptionist or cafe might be suitable. Based on your self assessment, in your interview you can explain and appeal your link and contribution you can make to the company.
5 ways to approach
There are many ways to think about how to write one. These 5 main ways can help you to think and write a good self assessment note.
1.Looking back on the past
Thinking back about your school life and how you grew up can help you understand who you are. Try recalling a memorable event which can be good or bad and how you thought and acted may show your skills.
2.Thinking about your current self
By reflecting on your current self, you can deepen your understanding. It will also help you in giving an episode talk during an interview if you refer to something that happened to you recently.
3.Thinking about oneself in the future
Where will you be in 5 to 10 years? How are you going to shape your career plan? Thinking about these will help you in deciding on what you should do and take the first step accordingly.
4.Seeing yourself from a third person perspective
By seeing yourself objectively, you can see your strengths and weaknesses. You can ask your friends, families and even teachers about their opinion on you so get a proper answer.
5.Thinking about the connection with Japan
If you are planning to work in Japan, this factor is important. The questions you would want to ask are “Why do you wanna work in Japan?”, “Why made you interested in Japan in the first place?” and if you are a student, “ Why are you studying in Japan?” By also reflecting on your own country and Japan as well, you might be able to approach it. By thinking about this, you can also link it to why you want to work in a company that is in Japan; thus persuade the company during the interview.
Summary
Self assessement is all about knowing yourself better in a more objective way. It will not only help in job hunting but also in your private life. This is just the first step to job hunting; there are many more steps. If you know the points discussed, then it would be easier to persuade the company to hire you and also would be easier to answer in your entry sheet and even in your interview.
