Hi everyone, this is jimomin.work! Bringing job huntings tips and living tips in Japan. Today is about an event report on “GLOBAL NETWORKING COMMUNITY EVENT @KYOTO ~entrepreneur & recruit~” which was co-hosted by us and Kyoto City Industry and Tourism Bureau’s Kyoto Wisdom Industry Creation Center (一般社団法人京都知恵産業創造の森).
This networking event was mainly for those who want to start a business in Kyoto or want to work in Kyoto. It was to connect international students and/or foreigners with companies/organizations which would want to support them and share information.
Although the event was held on a rainy weekday night, 33 people attended, exceeding the predicted capacity.

The theme of the event was “Thinking of ways to work in Japan”. We asked our guest speaker to share their experiences as an entrepreneur or working at SME companies instead of a large corporate company; and how global talents can fully utilize their skills.

1st Guest Speaker Greg Koch

Private touring company mainly for inbound customers
Mr. Greg Koch has been running his own company in Kyoto for more than 10 years. He shared the reason behind starting his own business and the difficulties/struggles of running his own business. Alongside, he also gave advice to global talents who are interested in starting their own business.
Many participants were taking notes; and undoubtedly a valuable opportunity for the participants to hear firsthand about his experiences.
2nd Guest Speaker Wang Sen Pin
Graduated from Kyoto Gakuen University, Faculty of Business Administration.
Working as corporate consultant for ADDD-LINK CO.,LTD’s service jimomim work.
A former international student from China, Mr. Wang has lived in Kyoto for more than 10 years. After a career change from a large company to Addd-link, a SEM, he works as a client consultant and helps global talents who are trying to work in Japan. He talked about the merits and its appeal of working for a SME and how a global talent can utilize their skills.
Q/A session
A panel discussion was held with the guest speakers alongside two facilitators speaking in Japanese and English. Participants were mainly interested in questions related to entrepreneurship and the reality of working in Kyoto such as “how to acquire a working status VISA?”. There were causal questions such as recommendations for places to visit in Kyoto since they have been living in Kyoto for a long time.
Networking with Pizza and drinks
After the guest talk and the Q/A session, it was time for networking and pizza time! Both international students and global talents who already have a career both interacted with each other as well as with Japanese companies and the guest speakers. Pizza, Japanese snacks and drinks were provided. There were also vegetarian pizza to cater to everyone’s dietary needs
Feedback
Participants were able to talk to people from a variety of industries and professions. Overall, the feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many appreciated the content of the event and received comments such as “It may inspire students in starting their business in Kyoto, which is great" and "It was very good and foreigner friendly. The advice they gave was very helpful.”
With the help of Kyoto Wisdom Industry Creation Center, we would like to hold more networking events like this one in the future to connect Kyoto’s global talents and companies.
